Turn West onto 4th Street, take until it joins up with Sir Francis Drake Blvd (about 5 miles)īear right to stay on Sir Francis Drake Blvd. San Rafael exit (route bypasses town of Ross, but merges with other 101N/S route)Ĭoming from north or south via 101, take Central San Rafael Exit. Just keep going straight on Drake you'll go through Fairfax, Lagunitas, then Samuel P. You'll get to a major traffic hub in downtown San Anselmo, where there is a large 1924 Spanish Colonial Revival style building, which was built in 1924 as a garage and car sales showroom. Take San Anselmo Exit onto Sir Francis Drake Blvd.

Keep going, for about 15 miles until you get to Olema! Go around Bolinas Lagoon (look for harbor seals on your left at low tide!) Go through Stinson Beach (still on Route 1) Make a right when you get to stop sign at Route 1 Take the right to Mount Tam (it also goes to Stinson, and is quicker) Route takes you over Mount Tam: (beautiful, windy road, steep cliffs, incredible vistas)Īt the intersection in Tam Valley, take a left onto Shoreline Hwy (Route 1)Īfter a few miles, it splits to go either straight to Stinson Beach or right to Mount Tam. * Note: The Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuary offices relocated in early 2015, the office next to the Red Barn classroom is no longer an officeįrom 101 (closest to San Francisco/GG Bridge) * Note that cell phone coverage between 101 and Olema varies and gradually diminishes for most cell phone carriers as you head west to Olema In addition, there are trails leading to other beaches in Tomales Bay, such as Pebble Beach, Indian Beach, and the charming Shell Beach, which is also a fantastic swimming beach.Directions to Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuary offices (co-located at Point Reyes National Seashore) The waters at Heart's Desire beach are tranquil and warmer than at other beaches along the Pacific Ocean, making it an excellent place for swimming. It features picnic tables and a grassy space where people may stretch out, making it simple to spend the day there. In Tomales Bay State Park, Heart's Desire Beach is a family-friendly location. Alamere Falls is a striking and lovely sight in either case.
It plunges directly into the Pacific Ocean at moderate to high tide when the waves kiss the base of the coastal bluffs.
Alamere Falls cascades 40 feet into Wildcat Beach at low tide. Regardless of when you decide to hike, Alamere Falls offers breathtaking views. You should add this 13-mile trek to your California bucket list since it leads to spectacular and uncommon 40-foot falls. It is one of only two tidefall waterfalls on California's coast. Only 34 waterfalls in the world run into an ocean, including Alamere Falls.
